Why carbon neutral delivery?
While building Dunia USA, we pondered the environmental effects of shipping products around the world, how items are made and many other processes related to running an e-commerce store. After we determined where items were sourced, we needed a way to make the shipping process sustainable and eco-friendly.
First, we started the Dunia Recycling Program. Any customers who choose to recycle or reuse the packaging from their shipment will receive a unique 10% discount code when they tag us on IG or Facebook.
Next, we needed a way to offset the carbon produced during the shipping process. We landed on the addition of carbon neutral delivery via the purchase of carbon emission offsets.
How are carbon emission offsets purchased?
We have partnered with Cloverly to calculate the cost of carbon offsets based on the shipping distance from our warehouse to your doorstep.
During checkout, you will see a checkbox (see below) to add a small carbon offset charge to your order. The cost is calculated based on the carbon emissions created by shipping ground or air from our zip code to yours.
How can you pay for carbon neutral delivery for your order?
At checkout, Dunia USA contacts Cloverly for an estimate of the amount of carbon your order will generate based on shipment miles and the weight of your package. After the estimate is calculated, you will see a checkbox with the total amount you can add to your order for carbon offsetting. Amounts usually range between 0.49 - $1.50 per order.
Every offset purchase pay is sent to Cloverly and used to purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (REC). (see the EPA website for more details on RECs)
NOTE: If you click on "carbon neutral delivery" you will see the project that will receive the certificate for your purchase.
Cloverly then uses the Renewable Energy Certificates to fund existing and new wind, solar and tree planting projects that aim to counteract and reduce greenhouse gases.
Why add carbon offset to your purchase?
Purchasing carbon offsets, though not ideal, are an imperfect solution to an extremely complicated problem. At the very least, carbon offsets are a way to channel much-needed investment into green energy and conservation.
